TAGE UND ZEICHEN

“Others keep a diary. I paint.”

In the morning, a blank sheet of paper hangs on the wall. By evening, it has been painted. Or perhaps not. Not every day becomes a painting. But every painting was once a day.

The series Tage und Zeichen has developed over several years. The works have no titles. They bear the dates on which they were created.

Each sheet begins as an open possibility. Without a subject. Without a plan. Without the intention to depict anything in particular. Sometimes a work emerges. Sometimes the sheet remains blank. Color, emptiness, material, and gesture come together as a trace of what was present that day. Not as a depiction of an event, nor as an expression of a particular emotion. More as an atmosphere. Something that reveals itself while remaining elusive.

The works tell no stories. They impose no meaning. Yet many viewers recognize something familiar from their own lives: a mood, a tension, a sense of openness or presence. A collection of days emerges without becoming a diary. A sequence of traces without trying to hold on to anything.

As fine art prints, these works can be shared. Not merely as reproductions of originals, but as an opportunity to live with a particular atmosphere. A sheet enters a new space and continues its story there.

Tage und Zeichen is not a finished series. It continues to grow as long as new days arrive.

One day. One sheet. Or none at all.
