Gregor Stehle
Gregor Stehle lives and works in the Chiemgau region of southern Germany. His practice encompasses painting, installation, sculpture, and photography. At the center of his work is the question of how space comes into being—not as an architectural dimension, but through relationships between body, perception, atmosphere, and presence. His works do not point to something outside themselves. They tell no stories and illustrate no ideas. Color, emptiness, material, and gesture enter into relation, opening a space for direct experience.
A particular focus of his practice is the ongoing series Days and Signs. Over the years, dated works on A1-format paper have emerged—not as a diary, but as traces of lived presence. Each sheet develops from an encounter with a day, a mood, an atmosphere, and an openness to what may appear. Stehle’s work moves between reduction and presence. It seeks not the spectacular, but the immediate—not the image as representation, but the image as event.
His works have been shown in galleries, museums, and institutional exhibitions in Germany, France, Finland, Japan, the United States, and other countries, and are held in private and public collections. Gregor Stehle understands art as a form of knowing—not as an explanation of the world, but as a way of being present within it.
