The Date Is the Title

A title belongs to language. It can name, open a thought, or direct the gaze. Language creates meaning—but it also decides.

A date does not decide. It points.

The sheets in the series Days and Signs therefore carry a date instead of a title. The date says nothing about the image. It reminds us that this sheet came into being on a particular day. And no day exists on its own.

While a sheet is being made, a world is unfolding at the same time. People encounter one another. Decisions are made. Light changes. Something begins. Something ends. Most of this remains invisible in the image, yet it belongs to its making.

The date keeps this openness alive. It refuses to fix the sheet through language and allows it to remain part of a larger context. The image is not explained. It remains connected to a world extending far beyond its edges.

The title speaks about the image. The date lets the image speak.
